Fourth-grader bitten by service dog during school field day in Clarksville


CLARKSVILLE, TN (CLARKSVILLE NOW) – A fourth-grader was bitten by a service dog during Carmel Elementary School’s field day on Friday.


The bite happened as the student was running past the dog, according to Clarksville-Montgomery County School System spokesman Anthony Johnson.

School nurses were on the scene to take care of the student until the student was taken to a doctor, he said.

The incident is  under investigation by Montgomery County Animal Control, said Michelle Newell, county spokeswoman. No further information has been released.


Montgomery County has a dangerous dog list of those dogs that have been involved in a dog bite or incident with another animal or person. All dog bites and aggressive dog attacks are investigated, and once the investigation is complete, a dog may be deemed dangerous.

A dangerous dog may be ordered to be spayed or neutered, microchipped, muzzled, or to be confined in an outdoor kennel.

The next Animal Control meeting with the Dangerous Dog Board is 3 p.m. Monday, June 26, at the County Courthouse.
